Rome

Just said farewell to Warwick and Karen as they headed back to Leiden - it was really good to catch up with them, we had areally good time - we were all exhausted, but we managed to do so much.
Andrew and I headed to Rome on the train. Two Italian ladies sitting next to us on the train talked to each other NON STOP from Florence to Rome - hardly took a breath.

Ahhh!! Rome
Didn't really know what to expect with Rome - I mean I knew there were lots of old ruins and old buildings such as the Colloseum and of course the Vatican. But it's not until I got there that I realised where it all fitted in.
In the centre of Rome the city is very dirty looking, very busy, and the traffic is totally crazy!! - and all the ruins are literally in the middle of it all - you will be walking down a street and suddenly you will look up and see the Colloseum at the end of the road, or turn a corner and see a magnificent monument, huge statues are everywhere, and ruins of ancient buildings all around amid the everyday buildings, shops etc.
There are many Piazas (Squares) with buildings all around and an open area in the middle with a statue or a fountain or a column and these are the area where everyone gathers at night to eat or just catch the sights. Somany tourists it's always busy.

We toured the Coloseum, the Forum, the Vatican (magnificent), St Peters square, vatican museum and Sistine Chapel - so may places - I don't have time to tell at the moment as I have to go catch a plane in a moment. I will add photos when I get home and will explain further. I posted a card to you from the VAtican but I think I put the wrong postcode on it so it may take a year to get to you!
